The Dragon Codex is a major story and Gameplay Element in Dragon Mania Legends. After being unlocked, the Codex can be found and accessed by tapping the in the upper-right corner of the screen when viewing the Archipelago.

The Dragon Codex Dragon Codex is a book of Dragons, it unlocks after Breeding, Hatching, and Habitats the first Smoke Dragon. The codex's primary function is providing up-to-date information on Dragons. Once unlocked, the codex is accessed by pressing the button at the middle-right of the main Islands screen.

Story
Codex Parts
The Dragon Codex was first created by Professor Hogwin to record all information about Dragons. Shortly after its creation, Dunkelviking and his followers attacked the Archipelago hoping to steal the Codex. Professor Hogwin gives the Codex to his son, Ned, to protect it and sends him into the Mystic Cave to hide. Realizing that the Codex has been hidden, the Vikings kidnap Professor Hogwin in order to force him into giving up the Codex.
The main parts of the codex are:
* - Groups of Dragons to collect for rewards.
* - The complete codex of all Dragons that appeared during the time the chr played.
** The top count is the number of Dragons owned, separated by a slash, then the total number of Dragons added to the game data (Game Updates#Dragon Introduction Caveat during the current update).
* - All Dragons owned and hatched.
* sm - Opens the dcl.

Thus, the game begins leading from these events into the tutorial. After collecting enough experience to reach level 10, the opening to the Mystic Cave can be cleared and rebuilt. It can then be searched, using a team of Dragons, to find Ned and gain access to the Codex.
Collections
<!-- this section is included (transcluded) onto other pages, edit with caution -->
Collections are groups of Dragons collected for various rewards. Collections are grouped into categories or themes such as early game Dragons, all Common/Uncommon Normally-Breedable Dragons of an Element, Dragons required for Breedable Legendaries, ded, ved, and so on. Some collections have stages, providing greater rewards upon completion of further tasks, or themed seasons. Meta collections are collections of other collections providing rewards. Completed collections are always listed below uncompleted ones.

Features
Showcased Information
The main feature of the Dragon Codex is to give up-to-date information on Dragons. There are three aspects to the Dragon Codex: Codex collections, the Book of Dragons, and Codex entries.
Each collection displays the collection name, Dragon snapshot or full-size image of collection rewards, and the percentage of players having completed the respective collection. Dragons display a Green Check symbol once collected, and pressing collection reward Dragons only (un)hides the collection, instead of opening their Codex Entry.

Codex Collections and the Book of Dragons are accessed by viewing the Codex itself using the button.
Hiding
Collections are hidden by pressing the button, and unhidden using the button. When hidden, regular collections display only the collection title, while Meta Collections still display the reward Dragons and those necessary for completion. Sub-collections are completely hidden until deliberately unhidden, or until a new Dragon from a collection is hatched.

Book of Dragons
Meta Collections
Meta Collections are collections within other collections, where Dragons follow that same theme. The only requirement to receive reward Dragons is to hatch and place the required Dragons.
The Book of Dragons was a major feature added in Update 1.5. The Book has an overall count of Dragons that can be obtained and Dragons that have been obtained along with an individual count showing for multiples of obtained Dragons. There is an image slot for every Dragon in the game (excluding Chronos). Images will show in color for all Dragons that have been obtained (including any ltd). Grayed out images will appear for Dragons that are available but not yet obtained. Though slots are shown for each ltd in the Book of Dragons, no image is shown and their basic information (Level 1 Codex entries) can only be viewed while they are available in the game, such as when they are dotw or dotm. Basic information for all other Dragons can be viewed by clicking on their image.

Dragons can be filtered in the Book using either a specific Element (which shows any Dragon with that Element), all Dragons, or by ltd. The filtered view can also be sorted by either "obtained", which shows the obtained Dragons by latest Element, with unknown Dragons at the bottom; or "rarity" which will sort them by classification/type.

|+ All Meta Collections
The Book of Dragons provides the ability to purchase additional Dragon eggs at any time for any Dragon that a player has obtained, including any eod and ltd previously obtained.

Regular Collections
Regular Collections are themed collections where a set of Dragons, following that theme, are collected. Once all Dragons in that collection are obtained and hatched, a single collection reward is received.

In addition, one can also compare his collection of obtained Dragons to that of any of his in-game friends.

Codex Entries
Season Collections
Codex entries show the current stats and skills of a Dragon, along with some flavorful text explaining the interaction between the Dragon and its trainer. A Dragon's Codex entry can be viewed by clicking the when visiting the Dragon in their Habitat.
Season collections are ltd collections providing a reward when complete, typically a unique Badge. Each Dragon must be hatched and placed to count towards the collection.

Codex Collections
First available after finding Ned, the Codex Collections are made up of different groups of Dragons that are collected for rewards. These collections are grouped into categories such as early-game Dragons, all Common/Uncommon Dragons of an Element, and Dragons required to breed Legendaries.

The two types of rewards available for completing collections are Gems (ranging from 5 to 35) or Dragon eggs (Blueflame Dragon and Razor Dragon). A list of each group and their rewards can be found below.
Stage Collections
Some collections have additional stages to the first. The Trainer can complete the first stage, then the additional tasks required for the next stage reward (depending on the collection). Stage Collection Dragons are always available in-game, as long as any requirements are first reached or unlocked. The exceptions being the Event-Only collections, featured in other sections.

Note: Although the collections below are structured similarly to meta collections, and provide a reward similarly, the individual sub-collections are treated as separate in-game; thus, once a "sub-collection" is completed, it is sent to the bottom of the Collections tab rather than remaining grouped with its counterparts. Such collections are grouped here for clarity purposes.

Dragon shapshots contain a mugshot, Elements, Skills levels (in some areas of the game), Rarity, Enchantment Stars, Sigils (if equipped), an icon representing obtainment method (if not a regularly breedable Dragon), and a Green Check green checkmark if obtained. Non-obtained Dragons have a grayed-out snapshot and if they are a ltd, eod, or are offered in a promotion etc., display an availability countdown. The Elements of Dragons whose secondary Elements need to be awoken are visible, but grayed-out and marked with the Red Lock icon.

Information for Dragons is viewed by selecting their snapshot, which opens their Codex Entry.

Dragon Codex Button.png

The Dragon Codex Dragon Codex Icon.png is a book of Dragons, it unlocks after Breeding, Hatching, and housing the first Smoke Dragon. The codex's primary function is providing up-to-date information on Dragons. Once unlocked, the codex is accessed by pressing the Dragon Codex Button.png button at the middle-right of the main Archipelago screen.

Codex Parts

The main parts of the codex are:

  • Collections - Groups of Dragons to collect for rewards.
  • Dragon Codex - The complete codex of all Dragons that appeared during the time the Trainer played.
  • My Dragons - All Dragons owned and hatched.
  • Leaderboard - Opens the Dragon Collector Leaderboard.

Collections

Collections are groups of Dragons collected for various rewards. Collections are grouped into categories or themes such as early game Dragons, all Common/Uncommon Normally-Breedable Dragons of an Element, Dragons required for Breedable Legendaries, Dungeon-Exclusive Dragon, VIP-Exclusive Dragon, and so on. Some collections have stages, providing greater rewards upon completion of further tasks, or themed seasons. Meta collections are collections of other collections providing rewards. Completed collections are always listed below uncompleted ones.

Showcased Information

Each collection displays the collection name, Dragon snapshot or full-size image of collection rewards, and the percentage of players having completed the respective collection. Dragons display a Green Check Icon.png symbol once collected, and pressing collection reward Dragons only (un)hides the collection, instead of opening their Codex Entry.

Hiding

Collections are hidden by pressing the Hide Collection Icon.png button, and unhidden using the Unhide Collection Icon.png button. When hidden, regular collections display only the collection title, while Meta Collections still display the reward Dragons and those necessary for completion. Sub-collections are completely hidden until deliberately unhidden, or until a new Dragon from a collection is hatched.

Meta Collections

Meta Collections are collections within other collections, where Dragons follow that same theme. The only requirement to receive reward Dragons is to hatch and place the required Dragons.

Stage Collections

Some collections have additional stages to the first. The Trainer can complete the first stage, then the additional tasks required for the next stage reward (depending on the collection). Stage Collection Dragons are always available in-game, as long as any requirements are first reached or unlocked. The exceptions being the Event-Only collections, featured in other sections. test

Fairytale Megabitat

Breeding 12 Dragon of the Month Dragons is required to complete the four codex collections below. If all four collections are completed, the 5×5 special habitat reward pieces can be merged to form a single 10×10 Megabitat.

Dragon Codex

Dragon Codex Filtering & Sorting.png

The Dragon Codex tab gives an overall count of Dragons that have been, and can be, obtained (excluding Chronos or Clan Dragons). A progress indicator shows total progress towards collecting all Dragons. A snapshot of each Dragon appears below this, with sorting and filtering options for searching.

The buttons at the right of the codex allow filtering:

By selecting a Rarity:

Common Uncommon Rare Epic Legendary Boss Primal Divine Ancient Tyrant All Icon.png

By selecting a specific Element (which shows any Dragon with that Element):

  • Fire Wind Earth Water Plant Metal Energy Void Light Shadow Legendary Primal Divine Ancient Tyrant All Icon.png

By selecting a specific Source:

By searching:

  • Search Dragon (excl - Text field to search by species name.

The drop-down menu has two options:

  • Default Order Down Icon.png – Sorting by LTD Dragons first, and allowing Order by rarity sorting.
  • 🡅🡇 Order by rarity – Sorting by Not owned first, and allowing All, and Not owned.

The second drop-down is for showing one of 3 options:

  • All – Show all (once considered available) Dragons.
  • Owned – Show owned Dragons only.
  • Not owned – Show not owned Dragons only.

Note: Filtering is not reset automatically to the default when the codex is closed, the Trainer must manually clear the search bar and set all other filters back to All Icon.png to reset to an unfiltered state.

Snapshots

Codex Snapshot.png

Dragon shapshots contain a mugshot, Elements, Skill levels (in some areas of the game), Type/Rarity, Enchantment Stars, Sigils (if equipped), an icon representing obtainment method (if not a regularly breedable Dragon), and a Green Check Icon.png green checkmark if obtained. Non-obtained Dragons have a grayed-out snapshot and if they are a Limited-Time Dragon, Event-Only Dragon, or are offered in a promotion etc., display an availability countdown. The Elements of Dragons whose secondary Elements need to be awoken are visible, but grayed-out and marked with the Red Lock Icon.png icon.

Information for Dragons is viewed by selecting their snapshot, which opens their Codex Entry.

See Codex Entries for information about what appears in codex entries.

Duplicates

The Codex allows purchasing additional Dragon eggs for any Dragon previously obtained, as long as they can be purchased with Gold or Gems. Boss Dragons and regular Dragons that can be bred normally or within a limited-time period, along with the active VIP Dragons, can always be purchased, regardless whether the Trainer has them on their islands or not. Boss Dragons can only be purchased once, with limited exceptions, and only if they have been unlocked by defeating them in Normal Mode.

My Dragons

The My Dragons tab displays the snapshots of all Dragons currently owned by the Trainer, displaying the almost identical filtering and sorting options as the Dragon Codex tab.

Dragon Collection The DML Planner Dragons function allows Trainers to track of their current Dragon Collection. Numerous search options are provided to rapidly filter between, and find, Dragons to add to the collector's stable of Dragons, which are then saved via Settings > Login. This aids in other planner functions and game activities such as planning for Dragon Leveling, Enchantment, Sigils, Temples and more.

Codex Entries

Dragon Codex Entry.jpg

A Codex Entry is the Dragon Info or visiting card of a Dragon, which displays its complete information. They are accessed by pressing the snapshot or image in Dragon Codex tabs or from multiple other places including, but not limited to, Main Shop, Inventory, events, and by pressing the i button when visiting the Dragon in their Habitat.

Information displayed (excluding Boss Dragons) includes level, rarity, Enchantment Stars, species name, given name, stats, Dragon Collector Points, Gold per Hour, Elements, codex description, skills and Sigils. At the bottom-left of a Dragon's image, the Switch Form (Egg) Button.png button displays the egg of that Dragon, and the Switch Form (Current) Button.png button switches back to the current form.

For Dragons not yet owned, a button may appear at the bottom bringing the Trainer to the place where the Dragon can be obtained, the dragon cost, or text describing how the Dragon can be obtained. For owned Dragons, the following buttons appear:

  • More Options – Opens a submenu of multiple other options:
    • Happy Dragon Icon.png Visit – Visit the Dragon in its Habitat.
    • Dragon Storing Icon.png Vault – Move the Dragon to the Vault (if space is available)

    • Move (Green) Icon.png Move – Move the Dragon.
  • Academy Icon.png Learn – Send the Dragon to Dragon Academy to learn and unlock Skills.

Note: In the case of unobtained Card-Segment Dragon, in the Dragon Codex tab, a counter is shown under their image displaying the amount of Dragon Pieces currently had, separated by a slash from the total number needed to obtain it.
