==Writing style==
==Writing style==
Proper grammar and spelling must be used along with an impersonal and formal style. For example, one must not write: ''You can get the following Dragon'', but rather ''The following Dragon can be obtained'', or ''The player can obtain the following Dragon''.
The following writing style rules apply:

* '''{{wp|American English}}''', and proper grammar and spelling is used.
The '''standard''' language used is <u>{{wp|American English}}</u> and the {{wp|calendar date}} format is Day-Month-Year (example: 08/01/2015 or 8 January 2015). The '''only''' exception to the date format is with titles of articles and images belonging to ''{{ctg|events}}.'' Event articles use the <u>yy/mm/dd</u> (example: 15/01/08) date format while event images use the <u>yy.mm.dd</u> (example: 15.01.08) format. The time is represented in the {{wp|24-hour-clock}} format and written as hh:mm (example: 18:30) while the {{wp|time zone}} is {{wp|Coordinated Universal Time|UTC}}. In addition, the standard {{wp|system of measurement}} is the {{wp|Metric system|metric one}}.
* '''Impersonal, neutral perspective, and formal''' style is used ("The following is obtained" rather than "You can get the following").

* '''{{wp|Calendar date}} format''' in article text is Day-Month-Year (e.g., 8 January 2015).
When writing thousands/millions, a comma and '''not''' a period must be used as a separator. Example: 1,250 Gold/Hour; 25,225 Health; and so on. The only exceptions to this are the positions on {{ctg|Images:Events|event leaderboards}} that use no separator and names of {{ctg|Base Gold per Hour}} categories. When writing increments of time, they are written as hours and minutes, '''not''' as decimals or fractions (example: 2 hours and 30 minutes). When writing decimals, a period and '''not''' a fraction must be used (example: a multiplier of 4.75 is used for Level 45 players).
* '''{{ctg|events|Event}} page titles''' use ''yy/mm/dd'' (e.g., 15/01/08) format
* '''Event images''' use ''yy.mm.dd'' ((e.g., 15.01.08) format.
* '''Time''' is written in {{wp|24-hour-clock}} format as hh:mm (e.g., 18:30) while {{wp|time zone}} is {{wp|Coordinated Universal Time|UTC}}.
* '''{{wp|system of measurement}}''' standard is the {{wp|Metric system|metric system}}.
* '''Thousands/millions''' are separated by a comma '''not''' a period (e.g., 1,250 Gold/Hour, not 1250 Gold/Hour; 25,225 Health; and so on). The only exceptions are positions on {{ctg|Images:Events|event leaderboards}} using no separator and names of {{ctg|Base Gold per Hour}} categories.
* '''Increments of time''' are written as hours and minutes, '''not''' as decimals or fractions (example: 2 hours and 30 minutes).
* Decimals use a period '''not''' a fraction (e.g., a multiplier of 4.75).
* '''Numbers in articles''' are written in digits when used alongside currency (and anything that acts like a cost), [[Food]], levels, {{ctg|stats}}, [[Level Modifier|modifiers]], quantities, and timers or durations. Otherwise, they are written in letters.

When dealing with numbers in articles, they are written in digits when used alongside currency (and anything that acts like a cost), [[Food]], levels, {{ctg|stats}}, [[Level Modifier|modifiers]], and timers or various durations. Otherwise, they are written in letters.

==Capitalization and specific terminology==
===Capitalization===
===Capitalization===
In general, words that are designed to refer to names, or to specify a particular object, are capitalized. For example, the word ''level'', when used in general, is not capitalized, but it is when specifying a particular level. For example: ''the player unlocks the Dragon Academy at Level 4.'' Another example is the word ''chest''; ''The Epic Chest is the most expensive of all chests.'' Or the word ''seal''; ''Chronos is unlocked when forging all the seals; the Seal of History is found in the Ancient Palace.'' Same goes for ''quest: Winning quests is necessary to progress on the Campaign Map; The first quest in the game is Quest 1.''
Use the following capitalization guidelines:
* '''Proper names for people, places, or objects''' are capitalized (e.g., ''level'' when used in general, but when specifying a particular level it ''is'' capitalized. For example: "the player unlocks the Dragon Academy at Level 4" or the word "chest" when specifying a particular type of chest: "The Epic Chest").

Some words, both the word itself (in both singular and plural forms) and what they refer to, when referring to in-game features or mechanics, are always capitalized (except for prepositions contained within them): Dragon, Element. As such, when referring to in-game Dragons, the word is capitalized, but when referring to {{wp|dragon}}s outside the game the word is not capitalized. Element is used to refer to one of the twelve attributes of a Dragon (Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, Plant, Metal, Energy, Void, Light, Shadow, Legendary, Divine). Thus, when element is used under the meaning of feature or component, it is not capitalized.
* Some words, both the word itself (in singular and plural forms) and what they refer to, when referring to in-game features or mechanics, are '''always capitalized''' (except for prepositions contained within them): '''Dragon''', or '''Element'''. Thus, when an element is used under the meaning of feature or component, it is not capitalized.

For a clearer understanding, the following represents words (in both singular and plural forms) that, when referring to game mechanics and features, are always capitalized (except for prepositions contained within them): [[Campaign Map]], [[Clans|Clan]], [[Clockwork Dungeon]], [[Campaign Map]], [[Dragon Codex]], [[Dragon Fury]], [[Dragon League]], [[Enchantment]], [[Food]], [[Heroic Mode]], [[VIP Status|VIP]], and the names of {{ctg|In-Game Currency|in-game currencies}}, [[characters]], [[ruins]], {{ctg|stats}}, {{ctg|Types|types/classifications}}, {{ctg|skills}}, [[obstacles]], [[decorations]], {{ctg|islands}}, {{ctg|buildings}}, and so on and so forth. One should note that even when not written by its complete name, the feature is still to be capitalized: ''The [Clockwork] <u>Dungeon</u> is unlocked later in the game.''

===Terminology===
===Terminology===
* {{ctg|Types|Type or classification}} is used to refer to the rarity tier of a Dragon (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Divine). In some cases, Boss might be included for administrative purposes, but it is not a true rarity.
* {{ctg|Rarity|Classification}} refers to the rarity of a Dragon (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Divine, Boss).
* Archipelago is the collective term used for {{ctg|islands}} while [[Dragolandia]] refers to the place where the entirety of the game takes place, thus it includes both the Archipelago and the [[Campaign Map]], as well as comprising other elements or locations within the game.
* Archipelago refers to the collective group of {{ctg|islands}}, while [[Dragolandia]] refers to where the entire game takes place; thus it includes the Archipelago, the [[Campaign Map]], and other locations in the game.
* Whenever a specific Main or Side Quest is referred, it must be written as Quest ''Number'' ('''Full Name'''), for example: Quest 1 ('''Port Of Numa'''). Additionally it must be specified from which mode it is part of ([[Normal Mode]] or [[Heroic Mode]]).
* Main or Side Quests must be written as Quest ''Number'' ('''Full Name'''), for example: Quest 1 ('''Port Of Numa'''). Additionally, it must be specified from which mode it is part of ([[Normal Mode]], [[Heroic Mode]], [[Nightmare Mode]]).
* Dragons, with the exception of some categories, have two names, namely their [[:Category:Dragons#Names|species name and its given name]]. Their species name, or just their name, is used to refer to the one all Dragons of that kind possess (example: Mentor Dragon, with Mentor being the species name). Their given name is the one randomly-generated by the game and assigned automatically to them upon being hatched, which can also be changed (example: Olmi, Onte).
* Most Dragons have two names, their {{ctg|Dragons#Names|species name and their given name}}, ensure species name is used appropriately.

==Articles (Pages)==

==Formatting, linking and categorization==
===Article Models===
===Text formatting===
An article model is a guide to model pages after, used on pages of a similar type to keep them unified in format and appearance. When creating a new Dragon or Event article/page, please follow the {{ctg|Article Models|pre-defined models}}:
{{see|[[mw:Help:Formatting|this MediaWiki article]]}}

To make a text bold, three apostrophes must be put on either side of it, while using the Source Editor, such as <code><nowiki>'''Dragon Mania Legends'''</nowiki></code>, or in Visual Editor by selecting the word and clicking '''B''' on the editing bar above. This will result in '''Dragon Mania Legends'''.
* '''Dragons:''' {{dmlw|Dragon Article Model}} - Though, copying and editing a Dragon page having the same obtainment method is most helpful.
* '''Events:''' {{dmlw|Event Article Model}} - Though, copying and editing an Event page having the same type and configuration is most helpful.

To make a text italic, two apostrophes must be put on either side of it, while using the Source Editor, such as <code><nowiki>''Dragon Mania Legends''</nowiki></code>, or in Visual Editor by selecting the word and clicking ''I'' on the editing bar above. This will result in ''Dragon Mania Legends''.
===Creating Articles===
'''Before creating a new page, always {{color|red|[[Special:Search|search]]|y}} the topic ''thoroughly'' to ensure it is not already covered.''' Methods for creating a new page are as follows:

To make a text both bold and italic, five apostrophes must be put on either side of it, while using the Source Editor, such as <code><nowiki>'''''Dragon Mania Legends'''''</nowiki></code>, or in Visual Editor by selecting the word and clicking ''I'' and '''B''' on the editing bar above. This will result in '''''Dragon Mania Legends'''''.

===Linking===
# Open [[Special:Search]].
{{see|[[mw:Help:Links|this MediaWiki article]]}}
# Enter and search for the page name, using the appropriate name (the full, official name as found in the game itself), with proper capitalization (what you search for is also used to create the new page, exactly as entered).
#* Example: "''B''ottomless ''D<''ungeon" has proper capitalization where "Bottomless ''d''ungeon" does not, and just "Dungeon" would be incorrect as it is not the correct title as it appears in-game).
# Check search results, ensure page or page section doesn't already exist. Your search text creates a red link:
::<span style="font-size:0.8em;">'''''"Create the page {{color|red|New Page Name|y}} on this wiki! See search results found"'''''</span>
<ol>
<li value="4"> If no existing page/section exists, click the '''{{color|red|red link|y}}''' to create the page exactly as entered.
<li value="5"> Enter page content and '''always preview for errors and make corrections before saving'''.
<li value="6"> Save the page.
</ol>
|
'''New Page''' feature (error-prone)

Whenever something having its own article on the wiki is referenced in another article, it must be linked at least once. This is done by putting two brackets on either side of a word in Source Editor or by selecting the word and clicking the [[File:Link button.png]] button in Visual Editor. For example, <code><nowiki>[[Campaign Map]]</nowiki></code> will result in [[Campaign Map]].
# Click '''[[MediaWiki:NewPage|New Page]]''' in the sidebar '''Utilities''' section.
# Choose the correct page type.
# In the input field, enter the full, official name found in the game itself (with proper capitalization) and press the ''Add new'' button.
#* Example: "''B''ottomless ''D''ungeon" has proper capitalization where "Bottomless ''d''ungeon" does not, and just "Dungeon" would be incorrect as it is not the correct title as it appears in-game).
# Enter the content you want on the page, then '''always preview for errors and make necessary corrections before saving'''.
# Click the '''Save page''' button.
|}

If one wishes to change the text which is displayed for a link that is shown, a pipe (followed by the desired text to be shown) must be added before the closing brackets. For example, <code><nowiki>[[Campaign Map|Dragons on the Campaign Map]]</nowiki></code> becomes: [[Campaign Map|Dragons on the Campaign Map]].
==Editing==
{{see|[[mw:Help:Editing|Editing]]}}

External pages can be linked, as well. A single opening square bracket must be written, then the URL of the page (including the http:// part) followed by a space, the desired text, and a single closing square bracket. So, for example, <code><nowiki>[http://www.gameloft.com/en/ Gameloft]</nowiki></code> will look like this: [http://www.gameloft.com/en/ Gameloft]
===Existing Pages===
Editing should be done using:
* Edit (Source) mode, by visiting the page and pressing '''Actions''' (button) > '''Edit'''. This allows working with wikitext.

===Categorization===
{{notebox|Note: Always click the ''Show preview'' button before saving ''' to check your edits are correct; this prevents staff from having to ''patrol'' (mark as reviewed) multiple edits to the same page, the same day. Individual sections can be edited, but if you have to edit multiple sections of the same page, please edit the whole page instead of sections.}}
{{see|[[mw:Help:Categories|this MediaWiki article]]}}

All articles and files (pages and images) must be properly categorized. Depending on the type of article/file, the required categories can be found [[Special:Categories|here]].
{{ReleaseNotice}}

Categorizing a page can be done by simply going to the bottom of an article, while using the Source Editor, and adding <code><nowiki>[[Category:(name of the category)]]</nowiki></code>.
===Undoing an edit===
Undoing an edit is done by pressing '''Actions (button) > History''', finding the edit in the History list, then clicking the ''Undo'' link for the edit.

All image categories start with the "Images:" prefix (i.e. <code><nowiki>[[Category:Images:(name of the category)]]</nowiki></code>). The simplest way to categorize an image is by manually adding the categorization in the Summary box before uploading it when using the [[Special:Upload|classic uploader]] or [[Special:MultiUpload|multiple uploader]]. If an image has already been uploaded, the same option is available as with pages.
===Text formatting===
{{see|[[mw:Help:Formatting|this MediaWiki article]]}}

===Tables===
* '''Bold text:''' <code><nowiki>'''Dragon Mania Legends'''</nowiki></code>.
When new to MediaWiki tables can be a challenge to understand and create in MediaWiki format. For visual help building wiki tables, try the [https://www.tablesgenerator.com/mediawiki_tables MediaWiki Table Generator]. After a table has been created there, users can hit the "Generate" button to generate a table in MediaWiki format that can be copied and pasted into this wiki.
* ''Italic text:'' <code><nowiki>''Dragon Mania Legends''</nowiki></code>.
* '''''Bold and Italic text:''''' <code><nowiki>'''''Dragon Mania Legends'''''</nowiki></code>.

'''Note:''' Do NOT apply background colors and bright formatting to your table or they will be removed by a moderator for readability.
===Linking===
{{see|[[mw:Help:Links|this MediaWiki article]]}}

==Templates==
Whenever referencing another page or its content, link to it on first mention.
{{see|[[mw:Help:Templates|this MediaWiki article]]|for a larger documentation about templates and their proper use}}
* '''Exact page name''' link: <code><nowiki>[[Campaign Map]]</nowiki></code> results in [[Campaign Map]].
** Linking is case-sensitive after the first word (e.g., <code><nowiki>[[Campaign map]]</nowiki></code> doesn't match the actual page title because of the lowercase "m", an incorrect red link is shown on the page, indicating it doesn't exist. Incorrect links cause pages to show in [[Special:WantedPages|Wanted Pages]] erroneously, which must be fixed by staff.
* '''Override link text''': <code><nowiki>[[Campaign Map|Campaign Display Text]]</nowiki></code> becomes: [[Campaign Map|Campaign Display Text]].

{{ctg|Templates}} have multiple purposes on the wiki. They are used to mark something specific on a page and they represent an efficient alternative to typing lengthy words, as well as replacing various things across multiple articles with only a few edits.
'''Use caution linking to categories, since this categorizes pages mistakenly and causes the text itself to disappear!''' Instead, use the {{template|ctg}} template (e.g., <code><nowiki>{{ctg|Dragons|Display Text}}</nowiki></code> results in {{ctg|Dragons|Display Text}}).

Below is a list of frequently used templates. All link templates, with the exception of those used for displaying images, as well as other templates, also have the option to change the default text that is displayed by adding a pipe before closing the template and the desired text between the pipe and the closing of the template. For example, <code><nowiki>{{ctg|Dragons|Dragons on the Campaign Map}}</nowiki></code> will result in {{ctg|Dragons|Dragons on the Campaign Map}}.
* '''External page link''': <code><nowiki>[https://www.gameloft.com/en/ Gameloft]</nowiki></code> looks like this: [http://www.gameloft.com/en/ Gameloft] (Note the space between the URL and the display text at the end).

Templates that are used for displaying images have the option to change the default size of the image by adding a pipe before closing the template and the ''px='' parameter with the desired size between the pipe and the closing of the template. For example, <code><nowiki>{{i|The Great Dragon Race|px=25}}</nowiki></code> will result in {{i|The Great Dragon Race|px=25}} with a size of 25 pixels, the default size being 20 pixels for that particular template. However, ''px='' is not necessary at all for all templates or only necessary for some templates if they have a certain value. Templates who need to make use of said parameter will be indicated by the * symbol.
===Feature History===
When updates change or introduce new features, each change is entered in the ''History'' section at the bottom of the corresponding page, using the {{template|update}} template.

Note that in the case of this template, both the article and the icon have to have the same name, with the {{ctg|Images:Icons|icon}} receiving the word "Icon" at the end of it.
===Categorization===

When creating a new article of Dragons or events, one must make use of the {{ctg|Article Models|pre-defined models}}.
==Using Templates==
{{see|[[mw:Help:Templates|this MediaWiki article]]|for a larger documentation about templates and their proper use}}

* For Dragons: {{dmlw|Dragon Article Model}}
{{ctg|Templates}} are indicated by their opening <code><nowiki>{{</nowiki></code> and closing <code><nowiki>}}</nowiki></code> curly brackets, as well as the parameters and values (text after the equals sign) they contain. Values tell template what kind of content to generate. Templates are used for many purposes, such as to format, shortcut, repeat, calculate, or style content uniformly across pages. This wiki makes heavy use of templates, and most templates have documentation explaining their parameters, potential values, and use. Template documentation is displayed, often with examples, on their template page (in the ''Template:'' [[mw:Help:Namespaces|namespace]], the prefix for all template names). A full list of templates is located {{ctg|Templates|here}}.
* For events: {{dmlw|Event Article Model}}

When creating other articles, the rules listed so far must be followed. If the article is about a feature introduced after the game's initial release, namely starting with [[Update 1.1]], this information must be specified in the introduction of the article (example: Introduced in Update X, ''Name'' feature is...).
===Infobox Templates===
Infobox templates are used to generate specific types of pages and create information boxes at the right of a page, commonly seen on {{ctg|Events|Event}} and {{ctg|Dragons|Dragon}} pages. Such templates may also generate part of the page body text, automatically link to images, and do automatic calculations to reduce maintenance.

Whenever an update brings any kind of changes to a feature, this must be reflected on the article itself and the old information must be added under a section titled Noteworthy Changes in a bulleted list.
The primary Infobox templates used on this wiki are:

==Images==
* [[Template:DragonBox]] - Generates {{ctg|Dragons|Dragon}} pages.
<font color=red>'''NEVER''' add images of content that has not been released by Gameloft yet.</font>
* [[Template:EventBox]] - Generates {{ctg|Events|Event}} pages.
* [[Template:BuildingBox]] - Generates [[Buildings|Building]] page side infoboxes.

Images are used to depict different aspects and features of the game. Any extra detail that is present on the image and has nothing to do with what it should represent (such as backgrounds and neighboring buildings) must be cropped out.
===Icons & Links===
Most icons have default sizes for a reason (consistency and uniformity in tables and text) there are few cases where size should be overridden.

'''In general, all images should be uploaded at the maximum size for which they are to be displayed, so if a button is to be displayed at no larger than 100px tall on all pages it appears on, it should not be uploaded at a size larger than that.''' This helps to preserve site space and also bandwidth for mobile users in particular who have to download images over metered connections. [https://tinypng.com/ TinyPNG/TinyJPG] compression should also be considered, which means images reading for posting can be put through the compression tool, downloaded and then uploaded to the wiki for 70% file upload savings (with original images saved by wiki staff elsewhere).
==={{ctg|Image link templates}}===
{{#lst:Category:Image link templates|table}}

Images can be uploaded using [[Special:Upload|this]] for single-file uploads and [[Special:MultiUpload|this]] for multiple-file uploads. '''Any text present on the images has to be in the standard language of the wiki (American English)'''.
==={{ctg|Link templates}}===
{{#lst:Category:Link templates|table}}

When adding a new image, the following process must be followed:
To request a page be deleted, the <code><nowiki>{{delete|reason for deletion}}</nowiki></code> template must be added anywhere on a page, an admin reviews the request.

===Uploading Images===
Images are used (sparingly) to depict game features. Generally,  wiki staff resizes, crops, assembles or uploads images from high-resolutions provided by Gameloft, since screenshots typically do not offer a high enough resolution. '''Personal use images are not permitted.'''

'''Important:'''
* Use [[Special:Upload]] for uploading.
* '''Text on images is usually avoided, if necessary it must be in American English'''.

Images should generally be uploaded at the largest size for which they are to be used in pages (not larger), and most files should not exceed 800px in width or height (unless they look poor at smaller sizes). This prevents extra copies from being made by MediaWiki, as a file page can only display files at a maximum of 800px by 800px, MediaWiki is ''forced'' to create a copy/thumbnail to display it at that size on those pages, and unnecessary copies should be avoided (eats server space unnecessarily).

===Using Images===
While most images are embedded by using {{dmlw|Manual of Style#Icons & Links|templates}}, some must be put in the page body content itself; when this is the case, you can embed an image in a page by:
* General Syntax: <code><nowiki>[[File:filename.extension|options|caption]]</nowiki></code>
====Inline Images====
'''To include a non-icon image in text'''  it should have a size specified (e.g., <code><nowiki>[[File:Fire Dragon.png|40px]]</nowiki></code>. {{sp}}{{sp}}[[File:Fire Dragon.png|40px]]
* <code><nowiki>[[</nowiki>{{ns:file}}<nowiki>:File.png|200px|alt text]]</nowiki></code> to use a 200 pixel wide version with "alt text" as description.
* <code><nowiki>[[</nowiki>:File<nowiki>:Name of Image.jpg]]</nowiki></code> for linking to the page of the file without displaying it.

===Events===
====Floating Images====
The standards on naming images of events can be found [[Dragon Mania Legends Wiki:Event Article Model#Image Naming Conventions|inside the Event Model]]. These conventions are only taken into account when a {{ctg|Images:Generics|generic image}} can not be used.
MediaWiki's default image float of <code><nowiki>|right</nowiki></code> or <code><nowiki>|left</nowiki></code> is not used it doesn't work well for mobile. Instead, the {{template|floatimage}} template is used.

Aside from those conventions, more examples of how the images should look can be found {{ctg|Images:Events|here}}.
{{floatimage|[[File:Fire Dragon.png|200px]]|10}}
<code><nowiki>{{floatimage|[[File:Fire Dragon.png|200px]]|10}}</nowiki></code> (Column width percent is added after the image, and the image float is added before the block of text it should appear beside).

===Other===
====Buttons with Images====
For other images, the naming and sizing conventions might vary. In order to find out the appropriate name for an image, one should check {{ctg|Images|this category}}.
Instead of images for buttons the {{template|btn}} template is often used, making its text translatable. Relevant icons are added in the template.
* Example: <code><nowiki>{{btn|sm|green|{{i|Academy|i}} Academy}}</nowiki></code> which results in {{btn|sm|green|{{i|Academy|i}} Academy}}.

If no icon exists for the button image, or the template cannot make the button appear correctly, the button can be uploaded as an image (it may be replaced later).

The following conventions apply when editing on the Wiki. Add this page to your watchlist (click the Actions button, then Watch), for update notifications.

Also visit MediaWiki Help for additional editing tips.

Writing style

The following writing style rules apply:

  • American English, and proper grammar and spelling is used.
  • Impersonal, neutral perspective, and formal style is used ("The following is obtained" rather than "You can get the following").
  • Calendar date format in article text is Day-Month-Year (e.g., 8 January 2015).
  • Event page titles use yy/mm/dd (e.g., 15/01/08) format
  • Event images use yy.mm.dd ((e.g., 15.01.08) format.
  • Time is written in 24-hour-clock format as hh:mm (e.g., 18:30) while time zone is UTC.
  • system of measurement standard is the metric system.
  • Thousands/millions are separated by a comma not a period (e.g., 1,250 Gold/Hour, not 1250 Gold/Hour; 25,225 Health; and so on). The only exceptions are positions on event leaderboards using no separator and names of Base Gold per Hour categories.
  • Increments of time are written as hours and minutes, not as decimals or fractions (example: 2 hours and 30 minutes).
  • Decimals use a period not a fraction (e.g., a multiplier of 4.75).
  • Numbers in articles are written in digits when used alongside currency (and anything that acts like a cost), Food, levels, stats, modifiers, quantities, and timers or durations. Otherwise, they are written in letters.

NEVER add game content not yet released by Gameloft. Doing so without permission from Gameloft may result in a ban from wiki editing, or if repeated, a ban from accessing the wiki. Information released by Gameloft can generally be posted in the form it was released (e.g., if text about something was released by Gameloft, that text can be added; if an image was released by Gameloft, a corresponding image can be added). The wiki Staff may have a bit of added discretion in posting very minor things, when in doubt, please ask a Staff member before posting.

Capitalization

Use the following capitalization guidelines:

  • Proper names for people, places, or objects are capitalized (e.g., level when used in general, but when specifying a particular level it is capitalized. For example: "the player unlocks the Dragon Academy at Level 4" or the word "chest" when specifying a particular type of chest: "The Epic Chest").
  • Some words, both the word itself (in singular and plural forms) and what they refer to, when referring to in-game features or mechanics, are always capitalized (except for prepositions contained within them): Dragon, or Element. As such, when referring to in-game Dragons, the word is capitalized, but when referring to dragons outside the game the word is not capitalized. Element is used to refer to one of the twelve attributes of a Dragon (Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, Plant, Metal, Energy, Void, Light, Shadow, Legendary, Divine). Thus, when an element is used under the meaning of feature or component, it is not capitalized.
Always capitalized (when referring to game mechanics and features)
The following are words (in both singular and plural forms) that, when referring to game mechanics and features, are always capitalized (except for prepositions contained within them):

Note: Even when not written by its complete name, the feature must still be capitalized (e.g., The [Bottomless] Dungeon is unlocked later in the game).

Terminology

  • Classification refers to the rarity of a Dragon (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Divine, Boss).
  • Archipelago refers to the collective group of islands, while Dragolandia refers to where the entire game takes place; thus it includes the Archipelago, the Campaign Map, and other locations in the game.
  • Main or Side Quests must be written as Quest Number (Full Name), for example: Quest 1 (Port Of Numa). Additionally, it must be specified from which mode it is part of (Normal Mode, Heroic Mode, Nightmare Mode).
  • Most Dragons have two names, their species name and their given name, ensure species name is used appropriately.

Articles (Pages)

Article Models

An article model is a guide to model pages after, used on pages of a similar type to keep them unified in format and appearance. When creating a new Dragon or Event article/page, please follow the pre-defined models:

  • Dragons: Dragon Article Model - Though, copying and editing a Dragon page having the same obtainment method is most helpful.
  • Events: Event Article Model - Though, copying and editing an Event page having the same type and configuration is most helpful.

Creating Articles

Before creating a new page, always search the topic thoroughly to ensure it is not already covered. Methods for creating a new page are as follows:

Creating a New Page
Search + "Redlink" (Preferred Method) New Page feature (error-prone)

Preferred method:

  1. Open Special:Search.
  2. Enter and search for the page name, using the appropriate name (the full, official name as found in the game itself), with proper capitalization (what you search for is also used to create the new page, exactly as entered).
    • Example: "Bottomless D<ungeon" has proper capitalization where "Bottomless dungeon" does not, and just "Dungeon" would be incorrect as it is not the correct title as it appears in-game).
  3. Check search results, ensure page or page section doesn't already exist. Your search text creates a red link:
"Create the page New Page Name on this wiki! See search results found"
  1. If no existing page/section exists, click the red link to create the page exactly as entered.
  2. Enter page content and always preview for errors and make corrections before saving.
  3. Save the page.

New Page feature (error-prone)

  1. Click New Page in the sidebar Utilities section.
  2. Choose the correct page type.
  3. In the input field, enter the full, official name found in the game itself (with proper capitalization) and press the Add new button.
    • Example: "Bottomless Dungeon" has proper capitalization where "Bottomless dungeon" does not, and just "Dungeon" would be incorrect as it is not the correct title as it appears in-game).
  4. Enter the content you want on the page, then always preview for errors and make necessary corrections before saving.
  5. Click the Save page button.

Editing

See Editing for more information.

Existing Pages

Editing should be done using:

  • Edit (Source) mode, by visiting the page and pressing Actions (button) > Edit. This allows working with wikitext.
Important Icon.png

Note: Always click the Show preview button before saving to check your edits are correct; this prevents staff from having to patrol (mark as reviewed) multiple edits to the same page, the same day. Individual sections can be edited, but if you have to edit multiple sections of the same page, please edit the whole page instead of sections.
Important Icon.png

NEVER add game content not yet released by Gameloft. Doing so without permission from Gameloft may result in a ban from wiki editing, or if repeated, a ban from accessing the wiki. Information released by Gameloft can generally be posted in the form it was released (e.g., if text about something was released by Gameloft, that text can be added; if an image was released by Gameloft, a corresponding image can be added). The wiki Staff may have a bit of added discretion in posting very minor things, when in doubt, please ask a Staff member before posting.

Undoing an edit

Undoing an edit is done by pressing Actions (button) > History, finding the edit in the History list, then clicking the Undo link for the edit.

Text formatting

See this MediaWiki article for more information.

  • Bold text: '''Dragon Mania Legends'''.
  • Italic text: ''Dragon Mania Legends''.
  • Bold and Italic text: '''''Dragon Mania Legends'''''.

Linking

See this MediaWiki article for more information.

Whenever referencing another page or its content, link to it on first mention.

  • Exact page name link: [[Campaign Map]] results in Campaign Map.
    • Linking is case-sensitive after the first word (e.g., [[Campaign map]] doesn't match the actual page title because of the lowercase "m", an incorrect red link is shown on the page, indicating it doesn't exist. Incorrect links cause pages to show in Wanted Pages erroneously, which must be fixed by staff.
  • Override link text: [[Campaign Map|Campaign Display Text]] becomes: Campaign Display Text.

Use caution linking to categories, since this categorizes pages mistakenly and causes the text itself to disappear! Instead, use the {{ctg}} template (e.g., {{ctg|Dragons|Display Text}} results in Display Text).

  • External page link: [https://www.gameloft.com/en/ Gameloft] looks like this: Gameloft (Note the space between the URL and the display text at the end).

Feature History

When updates change or introduce new features, each change is entered in the History section at the bottom of the corresponding page, using the {{update}} template.

Categorization

See this MediaWiki article for more information.

  • All pages and images must be properly categorized into an existing category (ask staff for help if needed).
  • Categorize pages by adding [[Category:Name of Category]] at the bottom of the page, while using the Source Editor.
  • Images are categorized on upload in their Summary field (or afterward by editing the page).
    • All image categories start with the "Images:" prefix (i.e., [[Category:Images:Name of Category]]).

Tables

Tables can be challenging to understand and create in MediaWiki format. Once familiar with tables, it is easier to work with them in Edit (Source) mode.

The following is an example of what table source looks like, and each line's function:

{|class="wikitable sortable" <-- Table start and styles
! <-- Header 1
! <-- Header 2
! <-- Header 3
|- <-- Begins a new row
| <-- Cell 1 start
| <-- Cell 2 start
| <-- Cell 3 start
|} <-- Table end

The output of the above is:

<-- Header 1 <-- Header 2 <-- Header 3
<-- Cell 1 start <-- Cell 2 start <-- Cell 3 start

<-- Table end

Using Templates

See this MediaWiki article for a larger documentation about templates and their proper use.

Templates are indicated by their opening {{ and closing }} curly brackets, as well as the parameters and values (text after the equals sign) they contain. Values tell template what kind of content to generate. Templates are used for many purposes, such as to format, shortcut, repeat, calculate, or style content uniformly across pages. This wiki makes heavy use of templates, and most templates have documentation explaining their parameters, potential values, and use. Template documentation is displayed, often with examples, on their template page (in the Template: namespace, the prefix for all template names). A full list of templates is located here.

Infobox templates are used to generate specific types of pages and create information boxes at the right of a page, commonly seen on Event and Dragon pages. Such templates may also generate part of the page body text, automatically link to images, and do automatic calculations to reduce maintenance.

The primary Infobox templates used on this wiki are:

Icons & Links

Most icons have default sizes for a reason (consistency and uniformity in tables and text) there are few cases where size should be overridden.

Image link templates

Note: Images that link only to an image page are primarily shortcuts for inserting images (and not all images have corresponding pages). Clicking any template name opens its documentation page.

Images

Uploading Images

Images are used (sparingly) to depict game features. Generally, wiki staff resizes, crops, assembles or uploads images from high-resolutions provided by Gameloft, since screenshots typically do not offer a high enough resolution. Personal use images are not permitted.

  • Use Special:Upload for uploading.
  • Text on images is usually avoided, if necessary it must be in American English.

All Images Must:

  • Be categorized in an existing image category (staff adds new categories).
  • Follow naming conventions (see images in the most appropriate category for examples).
  • Follow existing maximum sizes (see table).
  • Have the appropriate extension .jpg/.jpeg for all images except those that require transparency (use .png for these).

Image Sizes

Important:

  • Images are obtained by the wiki team direct from Gameloft (or carefully taken at high-res by staff and cropped in Photoshop).
  • Copies of (high-res) originals are saved in the team shared folders, then "for-web" smaller versions saved.
  • All images except Dragon eggs are cropped to the nearest pixels to remove excess transparent space.
Subject Naming Max Size Format *

All Images
  • Replace spaces with _ (underscores) or MediaWiki replaces them with dashes.
  • Sizes uploaded should generally be the maximum size needed to display it (and for readability), to preserve server space.
  • Use TinyPNG compression on large PNGs, for 70% file size savings.
Achievements Decoration_-_Name_(Tier).png 300px w .png Example
Ads/Promos Event Name_(Event/Date)_Promotion.jpg 600 px w .jpg Example
Decos Decoration_-_Name.png 400, 500, or 600px (best judgement) w/h (whichever is widest) .png Example

Adult Dragon Name_Dragon.png 800px w/h (whichever is widest) .png Example
Baby Dragon Name_Dragon_Baby.png 600px w/h (whichever is widest) Example
Dragon eggs Name_Dragon_Egg.png 256 x 256px (exact, no cropping) Example

800px w/h (whichever is widest) unless difficult to see/read, then large enough to read. Example

More examples of how the images should look can be found here.

Using Images

While most images are embedded by using templates, some must be put in the page body content itself; when this is the case, you can embed an image in a page by:

  • General Syntax: [[File:filename.extension|options|caption]]

Inline Images

To include a non-icon image in text it should have a size specified (e.g., [[File:Fire Dragon.png|40px]].   Fire Dragon.png

  • [[File:File.png|200px|alt text]] to use a 200 pixel wide version with "alt text" as description.
  • [[:File:Name of Image.jpg]] for linking to the page of the file without displaying it.

Floating Images

MediaWiki's default image float of |right or |left is not used it doesn't work well for mobile. Instead, the {{floatimage}} template is used.

Fire Dragon.png

{{floatimage|[[File:Fire Dragon.png|200px]]|10}} (Column width percent is added after the image, and the image float is added before the block of text it should appear beside).

Buttons with Images

Instead of images for buttons the {{btn}} template is often used, making its text translatable. Relevant icons are added in the template.

  • Example: {{btn|sm|green|{{i|Academy|i}} Academy}} which results in Academy Icon.png Academy.

If no icon exists for the button image, or the template cannot make the button appear correctly, the button can be uploaded as an image (it may be replaced later).
