I wanted to pop in to welcome you here as well! I love writing Dragon descriptions as much as you do, so I can testify that it's super fun! I hope you have a wonderful time on this Wiki! :D Shusserata (talk) 17:58, 24 September 2023 (PDT)

Thanks

Hi @BigEarsQuake 2, I just wanted to say thank you for the great descriptions and also the number of needed edits spotted, we really, really appreciate these! Cheers! :D | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 20:02, 28 September 2023 (PDT)

My Apology Message

As no man is perfect, I may not be excellent at editing as I'm a new editor. Apologies for the mistakes I made on my edits and unintended "vandalism" (sometimes I correct mistakes and errors but I keep worrying if I myself made a mistake and unintentionally "vandalised" an article...) BigEarsQuake 2 (talk) 12:44, 8 October 2023 (PDT)

You're doing great, BEQ! Just remember that wikis, including this one, are community collaborations. We all work together to make it the outstanding resource that it is. We all edit each other because we all make mistakes, have differing interpretations, and differing styles of writing. If you are ever unsure of something, asking about it is the right thing to do. Your dragon descriptions have already improved greatly since your first edits. Keep up the great work! LoriN (talk) 13:27, 8 October 2023 (PDT)
Hi BEQ, don't worry, as LoriN said, you're doing great! No need to apologize, quite the opposite--we're very happy with your contributions--we very much appreciate your edits! We're especially happy that you're okay with us editing them (many people don't like that, but we ourselves appreciate it too!). Also, having a description entered that we can later edit is easier for us than writing them ourselves, so we'll always appreciate these, you never need to worry about that!
A couple of tips that might help:
  • When describing an eye, usually we would only describe the basic color of the eye (the iris), for example, for a person's eyes we might say: "their eyes are blue" (as people generally understand this means the iris). So, it is often enough to just say "the Dragon's eyes are blue". The small black dot/circle in the middle of a person's eye, is called the pupil. We typically only describe a Dragon's pupil if it is a very different style or shape than would be expected for a normal eye (for example, "the pupil is shaped like a slit, like a cat's eye"). If the pupil is just a darker color than the iris, it doesn't need to be described separately (we generally assume the pupil is dark/darker). If the pupil is an entirely different color than the iris, then we would describe it (for example, "the pupil is white"). You've been doing great at some of these, and we're always happy to help if you're unsure. :)
  • If multiple items were listed in the sentence before, for example, "wings, legs, arms, tail, and head" (5+ items), then "latter" should not be used. "Latter" is only for sentences that have no more than two-items: "It has orange wings and tail, the latter of which," or "It has orange wings and tail, the former of which" (wings and tail are 2 items). "Former" is used for first item of a 2-items sentence, "later" refers to the last item, of a 2-item sentence. If the sentence coming before had more than 2 items, instead of "latter" we would repeat the item name "The head wears...". A helpful tip to remember this is thinking of "former" and "latter" as a pair (a group of only 2 items). This makes it is easier to remember that either of these terms should only be used on pairs of items (a sentence containing only 2 items)
You really are doing great though, don't worry about that at all, thank you very much for your contributions! :)

Oh, also forgot to mention, we have not viewed any of your edits as vandalism, your positive intention to improve is clear, you don't have to worry about that either. :) | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 16:59, 9 October 2023 (PDT)
Thank you for these helpful tips that'll improve my English as I'm not a native speaker

BigEarsQuake 2 (talk) 12:29, 12 October 2023 (PDT)

You're welcome :) I can see you're doing good on these. Also, the corrections you've found and made to existing game feature documentation pages have been excellent, thank you so much especially for those!

Special Thanks

I would like to give special thanks to the following:

- All the editors who helped me correct the mistakes I learned from them and therefore improve my edits. - All those who left (especially) messages of good cheer on this talk page

BigEarsQuake 2 (talk) 13:39, 8 October 2023 (PDT)

You're welcome BEQ, we're happy to help, and always happy to encourage! Thank you for all your effort! :)
Oh, I also forgot to mention, you did an awesome job on Box Dragon one especially, as that was a really hard one to describe at all! I was only able to improve upon yours a little bit because I'm familiar with sliceforms, and because you already did the hardest part; otherwise I wouldn't have been able to at all. I smiled while editing that one because I was happy to have a good description to work with, that helped me imagine how to add more to it. | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 16:59, 9 October 2023 (PDT)

Big thanks for the detailed eye!

I wanted to add a big thanks from the team for the excellent corrections you've also spotted, BEQ. Corrections like below are extremely helpful, thanks for helping keep things updated! :) | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 09:38, 10 October 2023 (PDT)

Editing tip

Hi BEQ, I wanted to mention a helpful editing feature we encourage you to use. After having pressed the Actions (button) > Edit (option, to enter text editing mode), after making changes to the text, instead of pressing the "save changes" button, we all make an effort to first the "show preview" button. Pressing that button displays a preview of the changes as if the page had been saved, but without yet saving it. Then, if you see something else that needs to be changed, you can scroll down below the preview to the text area again and continue editing the page. Doing this with each edit, instead of making repeat edits to a page, can help reduce the number of edits that moderators need to review, which we appreciate. It is not always possible to avoid repeat editing of the same page, but when possible, we encourage users to get in the habit of using the preview button frequently before saving. I hope that helps, cheers! | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 13:53, 22 October 2023 (PDT)

I already use this feature, and it is really helpful ! Anyway thank you :)

Ho'mala Dragon Description

Wanted to stop by and give a BIG high 5 to you on the Ho'mala description you did. It is by far, the absolute best description you have done so far! Fantastic job! Keep up the great work and thanks again for your help on the wiki. The entire staff appreciates it! Also, did you get your rewards for the MVP Nomination (see Soukupmi's message above -- I don't want it to get missed because I added this message)? LoriN (talk) 09:30, 5 November 2023 (PST)

Thank you for thanking me on the Ho'mala Dragon's page. It is indeed the (currently) longest edit I've done, and yes, I got these great rewards ! BigEarsQuake 2 (talk) 10:25, 5 November 2023 (PST)

Thanks again

Hi BEQ, I just wanted to say another quick thank you, again, for the wonderful corrections you've been spotting and making! Ps. Glad to hear you got your rewards too! Cheers! :) | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 13:35, 16 November 2023 (PST)

No need to thank me for these :) BigEarsQuake 2 (talk) 09:32, 17 November 2023 (PST)
It is good practice for us to express appreciation of helpful edits, that's why we try to do it. | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 11:09, 17 November 2023 (PST)

Edit Conflict

Hi BEQ, just to make you aware, you don't need to add edit summaries that say things like "Added visual description. I hope this one won't get removed this time..." as I already clearly explained that the removal of your description was an accident, it was not intentional. This is a known problem with the MediaWiki software. It was also fixed and apologized for this when I was made aware. Such an edit issue can happen to any user at any time, if two editors have the same page open at the same time, and one person saves after the other Neither editor can be aware of the other's in-progress edits on the same page, and one can accidentally overwrite the other's without knowing it. Edit conflicts are NEVER intentional, it simply means I opened the page to edit it before you did, and saved after you did, without knowing an edit had occurred in between; and, as I opened it first, no warning message was provided to me by the MediaWiki software that there was an edit in that time. Please assume edits are generally made in good faith. Edit conflicts eventually happen to all of us (it will happen to you some day likely as well), please be understanding when such occurs. Thanks! | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 11:02, 17 November 2023 (PST)

Now I understand. Thank you for informing me about this editing phenomenon. BigEarsQuake 2 (talk) 11:13, 17 November 2023 (PST)
We used to get an "edit conflict" warning in the past. The mediawiki software apparently broke these warnings, so as we get no warning we assume there is no conflict. Not this time apparently. But as Crys said, it is always in good faith. And I can guarantee you - you would definitely notice it if we ever removed one of your edits. | -- SoukupMi -- (talk / EMail) 12:07, 17 November 2023 (PST)

Re: Sandbox Hesitations

I saw your doubts about creating a sandbox. Please DO so and use it, because that is what it's for.
True - we have only a few people who use it, CrystalClear being one of them. But this doesn't mean that you shouldn't.
Personally I like using the Special:ExpandTemplates page for doing my edits, that's why my own Sandbox pages are pretty static.

I hope I removed your concern regarding this topic - keep up the good work, you're doing a great job, not only with the descriptions.
Cheers | -- SoukupMi -- (talk / EMail) 01:36, 24 January 2024 (PST)

Thank yoy for helping me. The sandbox note will be removed for the subpage to become an actual sandbox. BigEarsQuake 2 (T/C) 04:56, 24 January 2024 (PST)
Awesome, glad you're getting comfortable BEQ, and thanks @Soukupmi! Adding to what Soukupmi said, I find that Special:ExpandTemplates is easiest to use for testing of templates particularly (the template stuff goes in the big box, and if the template is dependent a particular page name to work correctly, that gets entered in the first line, otherwise I leave the first line empty). I tend to use my sandbox for stuff that will need to sit there a while for my own reference, or if I need to leave off and resume whatever it is later, I can save it in my sandbox and do that (can't do that with Special:ExpandTemplates). Testing is good, it's how we learn to do more MW things and there's nothing that can't be fixed. And, there's no need to self doubt BEQ, you're showing good judgment and doing great! :) | -- CrystalClear -- (talk) 13:02, 24 January 2024 (PST)

Why you quit

Hey. Sad to hear that you quit the game, because then you never received any of the goodies that we nominated you for.
We hope that you had a fun time on the wiki so far and that you still will continue to edit now and then - because you are doing an awesome job here.
Cheers, | -- SoukupMi -- (talk / EMail) 09:26, 23 March 2024 (PDT)
